Simone Biles Explains How Her Long-Distance Marriage to NFL Star Jonathan Owens Works
Olympic gymnast Simone Biles revealed how she makes her long-distance marriage to fellow athlete Jonathan Owens work.
While chatting with Hoda Kotb on the Today show Sept. 7, she shared that the couple "started long distance less than a week" after their Cabo San Lucas wedding. Days after the ceremony, Owens signed a contract to be a safety for the Green Bay Packers.
"It's been different but at least we're both busy and focusing on our respective sports, so it's been nice and we cherish the moments that we get together," explained the 26-year-old.
As for how Owens is doing, Biles shared, "He's doing great out in Green Bay. He has his first game against Chicago [Bears] this week."
The superstar athlete recently made her big comeback to gymnastics at the U.S. Classic in August after a two-year break, where she emerged victorious. She had taken her time off from the sport after suffering from the "twisties," a gymnastics term for a mental block that occurs while competing.
When asked by Kotb if she has plans to compete in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Biles responded, "Right now, I would say that's the path that I would love to go."
As for what helped her get back into the groove of training again, she noted, "There were times where I could come to the gym and I would be like, 'You know what? No, I don't think this is gonna work.' And I'd [tell myself], 'No, I'm going to give it another day.' So I think just showing up and putting that work and that effort in really came to play."
