Simone Biles on her favorite 'cheat day' treats and what's to come in 2018
With the 2018 Winter Olympics starting up in February, we are already getting excited to cheer on Team USA as they prepare to compete in South Korea. And with bringing home the gold on everyone's minds, Hershey's new candy bar, Gold, is the flavor of the season.
And who knows more about winning gold than Olympic gymnast Simone Biles? We chatted with the athlete about what she does on her days off, her favorite 'cheat day' eats and why she loves working with Hershey's.
Due to her hectic schedule and constant traveling, Simone says that working with a brand like Hershey's, "has always been amazing, and like another family, which is always good, especially when you're on the road you want that feel."
"With the new Hershey's Gold bar, it's a caramelized cream with peanuts and pretzels, but it's also kind of cool because it's kind of like the unveiling for the winter Olympics with the name Gold. And it kind of ties into me -- I've won a couple gold -- and I think it's kind of exciting because there's no other candy bar or chocolate so to speak out like this one."
This winter, Simone will be "supporting [Team USA] from home because while they're training and doing the Olympic thing, [she'll] be back home training, gearing up for whatever is to come."
With new coaches and routines in the mix, we can't wait to see what is up next for the gymnast.
"My new coaches are amazing. We work well together and respond well. And I think that's very important especially as you get older. Tell them if your body is hurting or this or that, you like this skill, you don't. But other than that the routines are going pretty well... The routine structures differ as well, but it's kind of exciting. It'll be a little bit tougher, but a challenge is always good."
But when she's not on the road, in the gym or at the top of the podium, Simone has a pretty relatable life.
"Sunday is my usual day off— I have Saturday practice for 4 hours and then I have the rest of the day off. What will probably be the death of me one of these days is shopping. I love to shop — it's the worst addiction to probably ever have. And then we go to church on Sundays and have Sunday dinner."
The sweets she loves to indulge in are also very relatable. Simone lists the Hershey's Cookies 'N Cream bar and the new Gold bar as two of her favorite treats, as well as peanut butter and Reese's candies.
As for 2018, Simone is looking forward to getting back out on the competition floor.
"For 2018, I guess I'm most excited to compete again and to be back out there. I haven't done it in over a year and half, it'll almost be 2 years by the time I compete. So that should be a good one."
We have a feeling it will be very good. See more of Simone in the gallery below!
