A Simple Home Workout Helped Me Lose 52 Pounds in 5 Months
Before losing weight, I had a very sedentary lifestyle. I ate 5-6 solid meals a day that consisted of simple carbohydrates including pizza, pasta, ice cream, and lots of snacks. Although I did exercise, I did no cardio. Being a much heavier weight definitely contributed to low energy, mood swings, daily headaches, and high blood pressure causing me to have numerous doctor visits. I noticed a large portion of that weight was fat and water retention due to my high sodium intake and poor diet. I had no social life and never went out and was ridiculed by guys and girls.
I decided to start losing weight in July 2019. I woke up, looked in the mirror, and decided that as I had health issues, no neck, and no friends, it was time for me to change. I decided at that moment that I was going to lose my body fat, start exercising regularly, and eat healthy.
I started to read a lot about different types of foods. Starting a diet was extremely difficult for me considering the fact that I cut out sugar completely from my diet. My diet did evolve—as I started to lose weight, I would eat less. I only ate whole grain carbs, turkey, chicken, vegetables, and fruit. A typical breakfast included three slices of whole grain bread, 3-5 ounces of chicken, and blueberries. Sometimes, I would just eat a serving of oatmeal mixed with blueberries and walnuts. Dinner was usually a salad with 5 ounces of chicken.
I came up with a workout routine—that I continue to modify to this day—that included weights using Bowflex dumbbells, resistance training using the Bowflex home gym machine, and cardio. I exercised seven days a week.
I started seeing results by the end of the first month. I was so happy with the results that it was a great motivational tool to continue with my diet and exercise routines. I started to feel very confident with myself. I weighed 191 pounds when I started and now weigh 139 pounds.
Throughout the weight loss journey I started to have a lot more energy, my blood pressure went down, my cravings left, and people started to notice the changes. I’ve never felt better in my entire life. I feel confident, and happy overall. I still continue to diet and exercise to keep my figure to maintain my weight.
