A trailer has been released of Matt Groening's new Netflix series Disenchantment. You can see the trailer below. It's the creator of The Simpsons's first new animated series since Futurama nearly 20 years ago.

Disenchantment is described as an adult medieval animated comedy set in the kingdom of Dreamland, and follows a hard-drinking princess named Bean, who encounters various ogres, trolls and harpies alongside her elf companion Elfo and her "personal demon" Luci.

"Ultimately," Groening said in a statement, "Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."

Broad City star Abbi Jacobson has been cast as Bean, Nat Faxon as Elfo and surrealist comedian Eric Andre as Luci. Other cast members include Billy West and John DiMaggio, otherwise known as Futurama's Fry and Bender, and British actress Janet Montgomery.

Groening was reported to be developing a project with Netflix in January 2016, but details were then kept under wraps due to the typically lengthy pre-production stage for animated series. Now it has been announced that Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of the comedy, which will be released in two 10-episode chunks from 2018.

Cindy Holland, the VP of Original Content at Netflix, said in a statement that the streaming service "couldn't be happier" to work with the TV icon.

"The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit," she said, "and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans."
