Skier Holds On For Dear Life To Attempt Peak's First Ski BASE Jump

Matthias Giraud, also known by his Instagram handle @superfrenchieofficial, just completed the first ever ski BASE jump on The Aiguille Blanche de Peuterey in Italy.

The mountain stands 13,491 feet tall, and is known as one of the most challenging peaks to ascend in Mont Blanc massif. Watch as Giraud holds on for dear life as he skis over "blue ice" covered in a dusting of snow to reach the jump:

Absolutely incredible.

Giraud notes in the video description that the face was only covered in about 15cm (5.9 inches). That would explain why he skied so conservatively (and why it sounded like straight up ice every time he made a turn).

Giraud is an experienced ski BASE jumper, but this feat was one that he'll remember forever:

"This was the most technical face I have ever ski BASE jumped and taking years to develop the skills and serenity to approach it. This day is the apogee of my career so far and represents a new level in my methodology of ski BASE jumping. I am overjoyed to be able to share these images today with you today."

Kudos to him on an incredible accomplishment.

On another note, I have a very simple question...HOW?!?!?!

How does Giraud possess the guts to do something like this? I'm dumbfounded.

I wish I had more to say, but I'm honestly still speechless. That was absolutely incredible. I'm gonna watch it a few more times.
