Skier Lands One Of The Wildest Tricks We've Seen This Winter

Professional skier Jake Mageau is starting off winter 2023-2024 with style and flair.

His latest move—an off-axis 450 off a rail—is blowing our minds.

See it below.

This is one of those tricks that's worth rewatching a few times. In the constant surge of skiing content associated with our current era, it's easy to let the minutiae of individual tricks get lost in the morass.

But Mageau pulled off something really special here. And don't just take it from me; the comments section below his upload is full of fellow pros and freestyle fans congratulating him on the move.

The critical component of his trick is the axis. People get fully inverted off rails all the time, but Mageau nailed some otherworldy rotation—between an orbital and a cork?—that makes less and less the more you watch it. Seriously. Setting that kind of flip is borderline superhuman.

But that's par for the course with Mageau. He's an ex-member of the US Ski Halfpipe team, where he drilled in his fundamentals before taking a more free, creative approach to skiing.

The fruits of his labor are undeniable. In 2020, Mageau, alongside filmer Oliver Hoblitzelle, dropped one of my favorite street segments of all time as part of the X Games Real Ski competition. Treat your eyes.
