Skiing Icon Wayne Wong Rips Summer Slush At Mammoth Mountain

Wayne Wong is one of the most iconic figures in skiing history. Plain and simple.

Career accolades aside, Wong will always be remembered for that classic K2 poster, at the very least.

Skier Dave Amirault accomplished a "childhood dream" by skiing with Wong yesterday at still-open Mammoth Mountain, California. Click below to watch the 72-years-young Wong leads the pack through the slush bumps.

Childhood dream? More like everybody's dream, Dave...!

Wong has been a recognizable name in skiing since he burst onto the scene in the early 1970s as part of the freestyle skiing revolution that dominated the latter half of the 20th century.

As mentioned before, the K2 poster of his signature 'Wong Banger' move landed him on the walls of skier's bedrooms for decades. The photo is still one of the most iconic shots in skiing to this day.

Wong recreated the photo in 2022 with sunglasses company Vallon to celebrate 50 years since it was taken. Check out the old and new photos below:

Here's hoping Wong has another 50 years of skiing left in the tank.

Mammoth Mountain is planning to remain open for skiing and snowboarding through the end of July, conditions permitting. Stay tuned in with us here at Powder Magazine as we continue to cover skiing throughout the summer.
