The Small Change That Indicates Summer Is Coming to an End

It's time to dust off your chunky knit sweaters, because summer is starting to come to a close.

While there may technically be a month left of summer, as the first day of fall does not start until September 23, there is a small sign that indicates autumn will soon be upon.

We're, of course, talking about the time the sun sets. According to Time and Date, this evening, August 10, will be the last time New York City residents will enjoy an 8 o'clock sunset.

It's said the next sunset to take place after 8 p.m. will be in May 2024.

And it appears as though New Yorkers are turning the sun-related update into quite a send off on social media. Case in point: One Twitter user uploaded a beautiful video that took in the sunny skies on August 10.

Another shared photos of the "fiery red and gold" sky from earlier in the week.

Other responses were less celebratory. For example, after New York Metro Weather announced on Twitter on August 8, "Sunset in NYC on Thursday is at 8:00pm. The sun won’t set later than 8:00pm in NYC again until May 10th, 2024," many users responded with sarcastic quips.

One person chimed in, "everyone’s seasonal depression reading this cursed tweet."

Another commented, "Why did you have to say it like this lmfaoooo."

A third added, "Way to ruin the vibe."

It's clear that not everyone is eager for those chilly fall nights.

Of course, the sunset update hasn't been the only indicator that autumn is arriving in the near future. Many companies have already been gearing up to launch their popular fall products.

Not only did Home Depot already bring back its popular 12-foot skeleton, but Bath and Body Works released its spooky fall line. Oh, Starbucks and Dunkin' will be bringing back the beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte later this month.

Sorry, summer. Your time has come and gone.
