A New Sneak Peek of the Downton Abbey Movie Shows Lady Mary Telling Carson "I Need Your Help"

From Town & Country

The U.S. premiere of the Downton Abbey film is still a few weeks away at this point, but a new clip from the movie teases Mr. Carson's return to the stately country home.

In the sneak peek above, Lady Mary comes to call on Carson, and asks him to return to Downton Abbey to help prepare for the royal visit, but their conversation requires a bit of context.

If you need a refresher on where the TV series left off, here's a quick recap:

During the show's final season, Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes got married and moved into a cottage on the Downton Abbey estate. A few episodes later, it was revealed that Carson suffers from a tremor-related illness, and he came to terms with the fact that the symptoms would inhibit his ability to serve as the Crawley's butler. But despite the concern for Carson's health, things resolved on a happy note: Thomas Barrow would become butler, and Carson would serve in a somewhat supervisory role.

But in the footage above, that arrangement doesn't appear to be working out.

"I don't want to be a nuisance, but I need your help, Carson. Barrow just isn't up to the task," Lady Mary says before going into detail, presumably about the ongoing preparations for the royal visit. "He won't clean the silver, or he won't let Andrew clean it ... The truth is, he's in a sort of trance. Won't you help me?"

Naturally Carson, who has always served as a father-figure to Lady Mary was quick to offer his assistance.

"I'll be there in the morning my lady. Don't you worry."
