'SNL' rap pays tribute to RBG: 'Who else has six movies about her and is still livin'?'
It’s been a controversial few weeks for Saturday Night Live — and especially for cast member Pete Davidson, who was criticized for openly mocking a veteran. But this week, with a new sketch called “RBG Rap,” the 25-year-old seems ready to work to get back in the public’s good graces.
His video, which also stars SNL cast member Chris Redd, features a rap dedicated to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who last week drew public concern when she fractured three ribs in a fall. “Yo, this country … is crazy,” says Davidson at the start of the video. “You know there’s only like one lady holding the whole damn thing together, right?”
Kate McKinnon, a cast member who regularly plays Ginsburg, then appears dressed as the justice and proceeds to dance as the two men rap. “Her name RBG and she born in BK; running the Supreme Court, killin’ it since ’33,” sings Davidson. “She went to law school; she was first in her class. If she ever wants to date, I’ll please the court on that ass.”
“Supreme Court’s a boys club; she holds it down no cares given,” says Redd. “Who else has six movies about her and is still livin’?” Redd goes on to mention that the 85-year-old survived the Depression and “Twitter attacks” from President Trump, then ends by discussing her current issue: “Broken ribs can’t stop her; she eats that s*** for lunch.”
The internet quickly reacted to the video, calling it an anthem and praising McKinnon’s performance.

Ginsburg, who has not responded to the video, is reportedly back at work. But the offers of ribs from her fans and followers — which poured in after her fall — haven’t stopped. During an appearance over the summer, the justice said she has “at least” five more years on the court. For Davidson, it might mean that many more chances at a comeback.
I know Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is better, but I’d still like to offer up some of my ribs so she has some spares.
