Snoop Dogg's Rich and Creamy Mac & Cheese Is in a Class of Its Own
Snoop Dogg's Mack & Cheese
This is the Return of the Mac. No, not the hit song by Mark Morrison, which I am currently playing as we speak. This is the return of the mac and cheese, inspired by the Mack of all Macks, the original OG, the coolest cannabis connoisseur, the most iconic hip-hop star to ever live, the living legend himself: Snoop Dogg.
Although Snoop may be the inspiration for this kitchen celebration, the true admiration belongs to Snoop’s wife—Shante Broadus—because this recipe is her creation. To get a glimpse of how the Dogg pound chows down, I turned my radio up, headed to the kitchen and got down with this original recipe.

Ingredients for Snoop Dogg’s Mac & Cheese
To make your own magical batch of this mac you’ll need one pound of elbow macaroni, whole milk, heavy cream, unsalted butter, shredded extra sharp cheddar, shredded Colby Jack, flour, sour cream, cracked black pepper, dry mustard, ground nutmeg, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper and salt.
How to Make Snoop Dogg’s Mac & Cheese
This recipe didn’t follow my usual mac and cheese rules, but it did inspire me to update them. Rule four: Make a roux for your cheese sauce. But before we jump to that step, first you’re going to need to preheat your oven to 400° and lightly butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Add some salt to a large pot of water and bring it to a boil. Add in your elbow macaroni and allow it to cook for one minute less than instructed on the package. Once cooked, drain your noodles and set them aside.
Now for your cheese sauce, which will require a little razzle-dazzle and a flick of the wrist. Gently heat your milk and cream in a small saucepan until combined. Don't let the milk come to a boil, but while it's heating, melt your butter in a separate large skillet over medium heat. Gradually sprinkle in the flour, constantly whisking it for 2 to 3 minutes.

Next, gradually add in the warm milk while continuing to whisk. Cook and whisk for another 2 minutes, until the mixture has thickened. For the final step of the cheese sauce, gradually add in half of the Colby Jack and half of the cheddar. You’ll want to keep on whisking until the texture is smooth and creamy. Mix in the sour cream, add in your seasonings and Worcestershire sauce—all while continuing to whisk.
Lastly, add in the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce. Mix the noodles together until they have been completely covered by the sauce, then pour it into the baking dish. Bake until the cheese is bubbling with a top layer of goldenly-brown goodness, which should take 25 to 30 minutes.

What I Thought of Snoop’s Mac & Cheese
This definitely was the return of the Mac! I thought I was going to be mac and cheese’d out after devouring the recipe that broke the internet, but this mac brought the craving back.
This mac and cheese strangely felt like I was eating it during the holidays, even though it’s really the first week of February. I think we can thank the nutmeg for that, but it also might have been because you could tell that this mac and cheese took time and care to prepare. I was skeptical about the nutmeg and the Worcestershire sauce, but it actually made sense after tasting the first bite and gave this dish a little extra pizzazz.
Making a proper cheese sauce with roux was a little time consuming and required that I pay close attention, but all the work was worth it in the end. Each noodle was coated with the thick but not too thick sauce and the cheese flavor was just right. The browned cheese on the top was giving perfectly cooked pizza vibes, which added another delicious layer of flavor to this dish. This mac absolutely stacks up and it's well worth a try.
Tips for Making Snoop’s Mac & Cheese
1. Keep an eye on your milk and the roux. The milk can boil very quickly if you’re not watching. Likewise, the roux can burn if you don’t keep whisking. You definitely need to keep an eye on both for this dish to come out perfectly.
2. Use a large skillet for the sauce. Once you add the noodles to the sauce, everything can easily flow over the top if your skillet isn’t large enough. A good rule of thumb is to grab a slightly larger pan than you think you'll need. You'll almost never regret having too much room.
