In the wintertime, there are two words that bring joy and delight to children and adults alike. Two words that symbolize everything good about severe winter weather. Two words that invoke images of hot cocoa in pajamas, snowy boots, and hitting the snooze button 8 to 10 times. That's right: SNOW DAY!

Among the many activities one does on a snow day, making snacks is often the focal point. Baking cookies is great, but if you're like me, you might be experiencing minor cookie fatigue since Christmas. Something I haven't had in months, though, is ice cream. Though you might not realize it, you've already got something loosely resembling ice cream right outside your front door: snow!

So how do you turn snow into ice cream? Well, you use the most magical canned food of them all: sweetened condensed milk! Mix that up with some sugar and vanilla and pour it over a freshly-harvested bowl of snow. You could eat it right then and there (it's delicious as is) but if you want it scoop-able, pop it in the freezer for and hour or so for snow-day ice cream bliss.
