Sofía Vergara Files to Enforce Prenup in Joe Manganiello Divorce
Sofía Vergara is leaning back on the terms of her prenup as she begins to settle her divorce from Joe Manganiello.
The former couple—who announced their plans to dissolve their marriage last month—have officially filed the paperwork to get their divorce rolling, with the Modern Family alum requesting that her prenuptial agreement be enforced to protect her assets.
According to new court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Vergara has responded to Manganiello's July 19 divorce filing, asking the court to enforce their prenup and confirm that certain assets should remain hers, including jewelry, artwork and "other personal effects."
The America's Got Talent judge, 51, also claimed her earnings from before and during their marriage as her assets, the outlet reports.
In her recent filing, Vergara cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for her split from Manganiello, 46, who did the same in his initial divorce filing last month.
Both Vergara and Manganiello are expected to pay for their own legal counsel throughout the divorce proceedings, as noted in the court July 19 filing, obtained by TMZ.
The duo—who were married for seven years and share no children together—first announced that they were calling things off with a joint public statement shared in July.
"We have made the difficult decision to divorce," the estranged couple told Page Six at the time. "As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."
An insider also told the outlet that the duo have "been growing apart for a while now" and are currently "taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future."
