Sofia Richie Reveals First Collection of Maternity Photos & Followers Have ‘No Words’ for the Simple Elegance
Sofia Richie revealed yesterday that she’s expecting her first child with husband Elliot Grainge. The model announced her pregnancy in an intimate interview with Vogue that blessed readers with not only precious insights into her pregnancy but with breathtaking maternity photos.
Richie shared three Instagram posts. Each one was more jaw-dropping than the last. The first is a joint carousel with Richie, Vogue, and Vogue Weddings that has five shots. In the opening one, Richie wears white underwear and a white button-down shirt that is buttoned across her chest but open at the bottom to show off her growing bump. The TV personality has a caring yet fierce look about her, as if her maternal instincts — both nurturing and protective — are kicking in.

One of the other photos in the carousel was the star of Richie’s second post. In it, she and Grainge are dressed in loose white clothes. He sits on a stool, facing the camera, and she has her arm around him with her belly on display.
“and then there were three ??,” she captioned the post.
And in the third post, Richie shared two more striking looks from the Vogue shoot. She’s dressed in an oversized black blazer with nothing underneath and black pants that are unbuttoned — probably to accommodate the little human growing inside her. In the first photo, she stands wide-legged and stares straight at the camera. In the second, she looks delicately over her right shoulder, cradling her bump with her left hand and placing her right between her breasts.
“No words ??,” one follower said. Because (try as we might) there are not enough words to do this toned-down yet elegant collection justice.
“Our hearts are filled with so much love!” captioned that final post. “So thankful for all of your support! Can’t wait for this next chapter of life ??”
How She Found Out
You won’t be surprised to hear that Richie’s early days of pregnancy were just as chic as this photoshoot. “I was on a trip to Milan for fashion week, and I was going to the Prada show…I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it,” she admitted. “I thought it was jet lag.”
She only decided to take a pregnancy test when she got back because she was about to have a “boozy night” at an Ed Sheeran concert. Casual. The faintest of lines appeared on her “really crappy at-home test,” so she sent Grainge out to buy the three best tests he could find.
“We spoke the whole way on the phone,” Richie said. “And when he came home — he’s such a sweet guy he always wants to protect my emotions and expectations — so he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If these are negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come.’”
“When we turned over all three tests at the same time they were all positive. He was so excited, and we both cried. It was crazy and overwhelming and so hard not to scream it from the rooftops.”
Since she was only 4 weeks along, though, they held in their screams and decided to be “protective” of the news. It wasn’t until 8 weeks that they decided to tell their parents by handing them “a Hermès box or some sort of box” on the pretense that it was a gift from Milan Fashion Week.
“They opened it and it had all three of the pregnancy tests [in it]…Watching their reaction go from like, ‘I’m about to get an expensive present’ to like ‘I’m about to get a grandchild’ was really sweet.”
The Sex Reveal
Richie and Grainge wanted to know the baby’s sex and planned for her OB to be in touch with Richie’s assistant. The couple bought two party poppers — a blue one and a pink one — and her assistant left one out for them.
…The pink one!
“We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl too.”
And it will come as no surprise that the fashion icon is already planning her baby’s wardrobe.
“From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I have been going crazy online,” she said. “I have so many ideas—just cute and girly….[and] I’ve held onto things [and little bags], and thought, ‘Oh my daughter will have this one day.’”
That little Gemini baby is going to have a closet like no other! But she’ll be learning about so much more than just style.
“I want to raise a smart, kind person,” she said. “I really value manners and being polite and being kind to everyone because that was instilled in me at a young age. Being someone’s best friend and helping guide them in life down a certain path. I’m so excited to hold someone’s hand through that, but most of all, to have my lifelong best friend like that.”
