Someone in Kansas Found a 6-Foot Boa Constrictor Hiding in Their Couch
For someone deathly afraid of creepy crawly things, 2019 was a tough year. I learned that tarantulas can swim, watched a python swallow a crocodile whole, and found out that a spider big enough to eat a possum exists. It didn't seem like things could get much worse—but 2020 had other plans.
Less than one month into the new decade, a resident of south-central Kansas called 911 after making a terrifying discovery: There was a giant snake hidden in their couch.
There are 162 species of snakes living in the United States, and 42 of them are found in Kansas. However, that list does not include boa constrictors—which is what police and emergency workers rescued from this unlucky homeowner's living room.
Oh, and did I mention that the snake was six feet long?
According to local news reports, the resident had lived in the same duplex for the past four years and never owned a snake, so it's unclear how a boa constrictor—which is native to South America—got into the couch. Talk about nightmare fuel!
Luckily, the fire department's "resident snake charmer" was able to wrangle the creature and get it safely out of the house. Now police are asking anybody in the area who is missing a snake to give them a call—and *I'm* asking that person to keep a closer eye on their pets.
