Someone threw a shoe at Jennifer Hudson while she was singing on stage, and she had the best reaction
Giving compliments for shoes? Girl, always. Giving compliments with shoes? Um, not quite sure we’ve heard of that. But Jennifer Hudson makes it work.
On Friday, someone threw a shoe at Jennifer Hudson during a live performance. She was singing her iconic rendition of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” on stage in Boston. One of her fans was so emotional and overwhelmed by her immense talent, he just couldn’t help himself.
Hudson captured the moment on video and shared it with the world on Instagram.
“I got my first shoe thrown at me tonight! lol I could barely finish my song after this guy got done!” she wrote in the caption.

Of course, there’s an explanation behind the shoe-throwing. This past Tuesday, Season 13 of The Voice kicked off. Grammy- and Oscar-winning (and rap battle champion) Hudson made her first appearance on the show as a coach. Based on what we saw, she set the tone for an in-your-face season. Literally.
Contestant Chris Weaver put on a show as he performed Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness.” Needless to say, it was amazing.
Hudson was so moved that she — you guessed it — threw her shoe right on the stage out of respect.
“Where I come from, that’s a compliment,” Hudson told Weaver. “And we know at times when you sing like that, you better be prepared to what? Duck.”

Hudson blessed Late Night with Seth Meyers with her presence last week and explained the shoe throw that moved everyone on The Voice.
“It is a compliment. At J Hud Productions, it is a compliment,”
she told Meyers. “If you move me enough that I remove my shoe to throw it at you, you have done something amazing. It is equivalent to a standing ovation.”
