Sonic is selling its new fries for just $1 all month long
Sonic is branching out from its beloved tater tots.
On June 3, Sonic Drive-In announced its new Groovy Fries and Groovy Sauce are now available nationwide. Groovy Fries are the brand’s first update to its spuds in more than 10 years, and to celebrate, the eatery is offering customers a taste in any size for just $1. The offer is valid throughout June while supplies last.
The new potatoes feature a crispy outside and a soft, fluffy inside, according to the chain. They’re made with deep grooves, which Sonic says is ideal for picking up dipping sauces like its Signature Sauce, Honey BBQ or Groovy Sauce, which has a blend of ranch, herbs and sriracha.
Mackenzie Gibson, Sonic’s VP of culinary and menu innovation, said while Sonic Tots are iconic, the powers-that-be thought it was time to give them some competition.
“With the new Groovy Fries, we’re redefining what a fast-food fry can be and giving folks another reason to say, ‘Yes, I would like fries with that!’” She said.
Groovy Fries join a slew of other treats on the chain’s menu, including pickle fries, mozzarella sticks and, of course, tater tots — the latter is available in regular, chili and cheese varieties.
Sonic says Groovy Fries are the first of many food and beverage innovations coming to the restaurant this summer.
It also plans to debut a merch store called LiveFreeShopSonic.com on June 17 selling items like a nugget-ice maker so fans can make themselves a pickle and Dr Pepper drink at home. The shop will feature a rotating lineup of merch and experiences — 100% of proceeds will being donated to support public education through the Sonic Foundation.
