Source Says Divorce Was "Last Resort" for Joe Jonas and "The Truth is That He and Sophie Were Going Through It"
Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner are sadly splitting up after four years of marriage, news that broke yesterday when multiple outlets reported that Joe had filed for divorce in Florida, claiming "the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."
According to Page Six, the decision to divorce didn't come easily. A source says that “divorce was a last resort for Joe. He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his girls.” The source added, “An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. There’s a lot of noise out there, but it wasn’t a straw-that-broke-the-camel’s-back situation like it’s being reported.”
Obviously, this all comes just days after Joe posted a caption-less photo of himself to Instagram featuring his wedding band, which many fans took as subtle confirmation that he was shutting down speculation:
But according to the insider, Joe and Sophie had “many disagreements” and “It just kept building, and Joe finally reached a point where he felt that he had exhausted all options to salvage the marriage.”
TMZ reports that Joe is asking for joint custody of his and Sophie's daughters, and that he wants a plan that involves "frequent and continuing contact with both parties." He is being represented by Tom Sasser, who was Tiger Woods' divorce lawyer.
At this point, Sophie has not commented on Joe's divorce filing.
