Southeast Kansas BBQ eatery to be featured on America’s Best Restaurants

FORT SCOTT, Kan. — A Fort Scott restaurant will soon be featured in a popular web series.

“I loved the food. I actually told them the burnt ends were probably my favorite. I just was all about those as a really, really good,” said Danyel Detomo, America’s Best Restaurants Show Host.

Brickstreet BBQ opened last year – they serve hickory-smoked meats, sandwiches, tacos, and their own in-house barbecue sauce.

“It was really great to come to a restaurant like this because they said the community had such a need for just like a good barbecue restaurant,” said Detomo.

The restaurant will soon be featured on America’s Best Restaurants, which travels state to state to highlight local independently owned restaurants, you might remember Hackett’s Hot Wings from Joplin was featured on the series back in November.

“We actually turned down to the smoker and we also got some shots ’cause right now we have briskets on the smoker right now. And we also brought them into the kitchen and we built up one of the Brick Street tacos and we were talking about all the different flavors and combinations that went into that taco,” said Carissa Bowman, Brickstreet BBQ Owner.

Brickstreet owners Alex and Carissa Bowman both said they wouldn’t of made it this far without their entire staff.

“Everything just had really good flavor. They also have really good barbecue sauces. So if you’re a spicy lover like me, they have one that’s spicy, so spicy, sweet. And they have their regular. So we got a really nice variety today,” said Bowman.

“My contribution was just being gifted. The recipe that was handed down to me, and I’ve just perfected it and have got to pass it on to the customer. And that’s what brings you the most amount of joy,” said Douglas Willard, Brickstreet BBQ Pitmaster.

Show host Danyel Detomo highlighted the restaurant’s smoked brisket, burnt ends, baked beans, and spicy BBQ sauce.

“Everything just had really good flavor. They also have really good barbecue sauces. So if you’re a spicy lover like me, they have one that’s spicy, so spicy, sweet. And they have their regular. So we got a really nice variety today. But if I had to choose, like what was your favorite thing, I would say the burnt ends are my favorite,” said Detomo.

“Seeing those smiles, and and and that makes it worth it to me,” said Willard.

The episode will air exclusively on America’s Best Restaurants social media channels at a later date.
