Southern Classic Chicken: See when, where to get the Louisiana fried favorite in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Southern Classic Chicken is gearing up to open its first location in Baton Rouge.

Donnie Jarreau with Jarreau Real Estate, Inc. said the fried chicken spot will be a corporate location and open at 3410 S. Sherwood Forest. According to Jarreau, there are plans to open another Southern Classic on Florida Boulevard.

Jarreau said the Sherwood Forest location is expected to open in the next six to nine months.

Jarreau said Southern Classic is a Shreveport-based chain with 17 locations, many in north and central Louisiana.

Meal combos include two to three pieces of chicken, with the option of dark, white, or mixed, along with a side and a drink. The menu also includes chicken tenders, mashed potatoes with gravy, cole slaw, cajun rice and french fries.

Jarreau said the hope is to open the Florida Boulevard location next to the new Rouses in nine to 12 months. A third location is also being planned near Plank Road.

“It’s a great product. They do just a great job in North Louisiana and some of the smaller markets. And I think it’s going to be a big player in the fried chicken market,” Jarreau said.

According to Jarreau, the Sherwood Forest location will be open daily.
