Volunteers at Springfield Public Schools' Back to School Bash passed out thousands of backpacks Saturday along with bags of groceries, piles of socks and stacks of school supplies.

The one-stop-shot created three years ago helps students and their parents get ready for the first day of school, which is Aug. 19 this year.

There were immunizations, sports physicals and hygiene items.

More than 175 volunteers signed up to help with the event at the Springfield Expo Center. Community partners such as Care to Learn, Ozarks Food Harvest and Convoy of Help were involved.
