A New Standalone 'Predator' Film Titled 'Badlands' Is in the Works
20th Century Studios is set to produce a new standalone Predator film directed by Dan Trachtenberg. The director was previously Emmy nominated in 2022 for his Predator prequel Prey which followed the adventures of Naru, played by Amber Midthunder, who was a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation who tries to protect her people from a major threat to their camp.
The upcoming film in the franchise is expected to be titled Badlands and is slated to set in the future. Further details on the plot have been kept under wraps, but it has been confirmed that the film will begin production later this year. Prey, the television movie prequel, received great praise with critics giving their Trachtenberg his flowers. It was released directly on Hulu and became its biggest ever premiere and earned the most viewing hours in its first three days of release of any TV series and movies. So far, it is uncertain if Badlands will follow a similar release plan.
Badlands will be the newest addition to the franchise. The original Predator film was first release in 1987 and starred the famous Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura. The trio of commandos fought their way out of the jungle while being stalked by aliens. The film was a such a hit that it garnered three other sequels that released in 1990, 2010 and 2018. Trachtenberg will helm Badlands along with keeping himself busy as the director of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.
