Star Wars Just Confirmed a Theory About Rey's New Lightsaber
Note: This article contains spoilers from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Star Wars' visual effects team has confirmed a fan theory about the origins of Rey's lightsaber at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
In the final scene of the movie, Rey visits Luke Skywalker's old home on Tatooine and ignites a brand new yellow-coloured lightsaber.
However, fans seemed to notice that the hilt uncannily resembled the staff that she carried throughout the sequel trilogy – and it seems that it really was made from the staff.
"That was the concept," visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett told Insider.
"The art production design and the art department, we all contribute to the designs of various things... [director] JJ [Abrams] just thought it was logical that she had the staff, and, therefore, the saber should somehow be linked to that."
Fellow team member Patrick Tubach also confirmed that the weapon did contain a yellow kyber crystal, adding: "Yeah, it's supposed to be a yellow crystal."
The Rise of Skywalker's effects team have also opened up about a neat reference to A New Hope that we all definitely missed in the movie's final battle scene.
