A New Trailer for The Spanish Princess Promises Sex, Love, War, and a Power Struggle for the Ages
Fans of The Spanish Princess can breath a collective sigh of relief. Starz has announced plans to expand the Tudor-era period drama with eight more episodes. The show will remain a limited series, so this isn't exactly a season two, but rather a conclusion of Catherine of Aragon's story.
"We are thrilled to tell the next chapter of Catherine of Aragon's story as she negotiates war, politics, and marriage to the most dangerous King of England," said showrunners Emma Frost and Matthew Graham in a statement last year.
"As a company that always produces compelling and dynamic projects, Starz has been a great creative partner and we look forward to concluding Catherine's journey with them."
Now, we finally have a premiere date for Catherine's next chapter: October 11. Watch the trailer above, then get all the details about the new season below:
Here's what we know about the new episodes so far:
While the first half of the series centered around Catherine's determination to become the Queen of England, despite her husband Prince Arthur dying from a mysterious illness, the second half will focus on her tempestuous relationship with Arthur's brother, King Henry VIII.
“The Spanish Princess” continues the story of Queen Catherine and Henry VIII. Presiding over the most glamorous court in Europe and beloved by their people, together they create an England that is proud, confident and can withstand the threat of foreign wars," reads a description of what's to come in the show.
"But when Catherine struggles to produce an heir, her marriage and her life are under threat, and her past comes back to haunt her. Despite proving herself a politician, a diplomat, a national inspiration, and even a military commander, Catherine must battle to save her love and her King and protect her adopted country from chaos."
Stars Charlotte Hope and Ruairi O’Connor will return as Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII, and you can expect the supporting cast, including Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael to show up as well.
The Spanish Princess returns to the small screen on October 11, on Starz.
