We’re Stealing So Many Design Tips from This Adorable Tiny House

Emily Bihl

It’s official: Good things really *do* come in small packages. If you’ve been eyeing some of the top decor trends of 2019 but worried they wouldn’t translate in your tiny studio walk-up, we’ve got news for you. This tiny house is 238 square feet of proof that style can conform to any size space.

The home was created to celebrate the release of Allswell‘s second mattress (called the Allswell) with a bit of fanfare. The mobile showroom will roam around the country this year letting curious shoppers try out both mattresses in person… while also taking notes on the picture-perfect decor, of course. And we’re way ahead of them.

“We wanted people to enter the home and immediately feel a feeling of inner calm and joy,” says Rachael Durkin, head of retail at Allswell. The tiny house makes a major impression, even from the curb. A dramatic window box and (functional!) floor-to-ceiling glass garage door give the home a welcoming and modern feel from the get-go.

The interior is like a “Where’s Waldo?” game of trendspotting. High-shine brass accents are sprinkled throughout the space, proving that the mixed metallic look is here to stay. Deep blue cabinets — a trend Joanna Gaines and we have been loving for a minute now — lend tons of character to the space, even in such close quarters. “We wanted to have a very clean and modern aesthetic,” says Durkin. “[Our] style is covetable and luxe but also unexpected, so this pop of color in the kitchen with brass accents felt necessary. It actually took a couple of hours to find that perfect shade of blue that would add a fun pop of color without compromising the sophistication of the design.” The farm sink adds to the effect but doesn’t overwhelm the space, thanks to coordinating countertops.

Even the necessities get a major upgrade. A compact washer nestles into a custom-built wooden cabinet that merges functional storage with the warm, modern farmhouse look. A very on-trend blanket ladder makes clever use of vertical space behind it.

There’s even room for guests. Allswell created a convertible daybed-slash-guestbed with their new mattress. Underneath, a bedframe becomes much-needed storage and ties back in with the warm tones of the breakfast bar.

At the opposite end of the home, the queen bed really is the best seat in the house, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides. Imagine waking up to a stellar view every morning and falling asleep to warm breezes in the summer. (Sign us up.)

A sliding barn door with a subtle A for Allswell (what else?) leads into the piece de résistance: the bathroom. Custom tile makes for a cheeky wakeup call in the morning. “The shower reading ‘It Was All A Dream’ was an idea I had from inception,” says Durkin, who shares it’s her favorite part of the whole project. “Mosaic tile seemed like the perfect photo-ready moment to draw people to that side of the home.”

Thinking of emulating this home’s style for yourself? Durkin has some tips. “Always keep your broader vision in mind when making design decisions and don’t overlook the small touches and details,” she says. “They make all the difference.”

The Allswell tiny house will be making its way around the country in the coming months, with stops in Nashville, Austin, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, among others. And if you’re really head-over-heels in love with the home, you can actually bid on it — it’ll be going up for sale online starting at $100,000.
