Considering the fact that SteelSeries makes and sells around 10 different headsets that look the same and have similar names, it’s easy to get them all confused. For PlayStation 4 owners and PC gamers, we recommend the Arctis 7 gaming headset for its stellar sound quality, premium but stylish design, and its extremely comfortable fit.

After testing the Arctis 7 and 20-plus other headsets, we've found that it's the Goldilocks of headsets. It's not too expensive, not too flashy-looking, and not too tight.

Comfort

We think comfort is one of the most important characteristics of a headset, and the Arctis 7 doesn’t disappoint. It's lightweight and conforms to your head without squeezing too much or ever feeling loose. Its ear cushions are breathable, soft, and don't get too hot — even during the longest of gaming sessions.

What separates the Arctis 7 from the wide realm of other gaming headsets is its unique ski-band-inspired suspension headband. The band is completely adjustable and stretches to fit any head shape, and it's machine-washable.

Design

Since this headset is so sharply designed, you really could wear it on a commute without receiving any odd glances from strangers.

Besides looking and feeling great, the SteelSeries Arctis 7 is wireless, so you can play on both your PC or PS4 without any cords getting in the way. It also comes with a wired 3.5-millimeter audio cable for the occasional wired connection, meaning you can use it on your Switch or Xbox One if you want to.

The similarly priced HyperX Cloud Flight S — a Wirecutter top pick — lacks the headphone jack. And even though HyperX's model supports wireless charging, the charging pad will run you an additional $40-plus, so we think you're better off saving the money and opting for the Arctis 7, given its comfort and impressive sound quality.

Sound

We used the SteelSeries Arctis 7 while playing Days Gone, and found that it delivers a full sound that seems incredibly realistic. The SteelSeries definitely heightened the overall experience, and every time we'd hear a leaf crunching in the forest, we'd be afraid a zombie was trailing us. That’s because it features the next-gen DTS Headphone protocol, which dishes out surround sound audio so you can truly feel like you’re in the game.

With the SteelSeries, audio sounded superb for music, movies, and gaming, whereas the Cloud Flight S only sounded good for the latter, and only if the 7.1 digital surround sound effect was enabled.

SteelSeries' headsets offer some of the best mic performance, but we found that Sennheiser led the way when it comes to microphone quality. The Arctis 7's microphone is still precise, clear, and never echoey, though. We also like that the mic stays out of the way and retracts into the ear cup when it’s not in use.

Wrap-Up

Overall, we recommend the Arctis 7 for its impressive all-day battery life, extremely comfortable fit, and top-notch sound quality. Plus, it's a lot cheaper than other wireless options, while still sounding extremely good.
