Stores Open on Thanksgiving Day For Groceries and Supplies

Grocery stores that are open include Dollar General, Kroger and more

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, many major chains that have traditionally been open on Thanksgiving Day are remaining closed for the third year running in 2022, both to limit pre-Black Friday crowds in stores and to reward employees for their hard work during a particularly tough time. 

However, while many businesses, including Target and Walmart, will keep their doors closed on the holiday, some major stores, especially grocery and food service chains, will likely be open on Thanksgiving in 2022. 

Last year, stores including Whole Foods, Dollar General, Kroger and other supermarkets within the Kroger family were open on Thanksgiving Day, and at least some businesses will be open again this year, whether for full or reduced hours.

Store hours may still be subject to change and may vary by location. So, it’s worth double-checking that your local store is open before heading out to grab those last-minute ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner, or items needed for Thanksgiving activities and Thanksgiving crafts!

25 Stores Open on Thanksgiving Day

7-Eleven

Some 7-Eleven locations may be open on Thanksgiving Day but “store operation on Thanksgiving Day varies by location,” a company spokesperson previously told Parade.com.

Acme Markets

Although location hours may vary, most should be open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Albertsons 

Some Albertsons stores should be open on Thanksgiving Day with reduced hours.

Bass Pro Shops

This retailer is expected to be open on Thanksgiving Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Big Lots

Most locations will be open at 7 a.m., and last year, they closed at 9 p.m.

Cabelas

Locations will likely be open until 6 p.m.

CVS

"While many CVS Pharmacy locations, including 24 hours locations, will remain open with regular hours on Thanksgiving some pharmacy hours may be reduced or locations closed for the holiday," a company spokesperson said in an email. "We’d recommend calling ahead to your local store, or visiting cvs.com to confirm local store and pharmacy hours."

Dollar General

Dollar General stores will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Dollar Tree

Most locations will be open the majority of the day, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Family Dollar

Most locations are usually open on Thanksgiving Day.

Giant

Several stores were open last year, but hours varied.

HEB

Stores will be open 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., although the pharmacy will be closed. And while curbside will be offered 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., home delivery will not be offered.

Hy-Vee 

Store hours vary by location, but most are open between 5-7 a.m. and close in the early afternoon.

Kroger

Kroger is normally open on Thanksgiving Day with reduced hours.

Kroger’s family of stores includes Kroger, Ralphs, Dillons, Smith’s, King Soopers, Fry’s, QFC, City Market, Owen’s, Jay C, Pay Less, Baker’s, Gerbes, Harris Teeter, Pick ‘n Save, Copps, Metro Market, Mariano’s, Fred Meyer, Dillons Marketplace, Fry’s Marketplace, King Soopers Marketplace, Kroger Marketplace, Smith’s Marketplace, Food 4 Less, and Foods Co.

Meijer

Stores will be open, but hours may vary.

Michaels

For all your post-dinner crafting needs, Michaels will be open 6 p.m. to at least 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

Rite Aid

In previous years, stores were open but pharmacy hours differed.

Safeway

Previously, stores have been open on Thanksgiving Day.

Sprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts Farmers Market locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. according to their website.

Starbucks

Starbucks will usually be open on Thanksgiving Day, with many having their doors open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.—however, reduced hours do typically vary by location.

“We recommend customers use the Starbucks Store locator and the Starbucks App to determine hours at their local stores,” a company spokesperson told Parade.com in an email.

Tom Thumb

From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., store locations will be open.

Vons

Most stores will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Walgreens

Stores were open on Thankgiving in previous years, but pharmacy hours varied.

Wegmans

Most Wegmans locations closed by 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day last year.

Whole Foods

Whole Foods locations are expected to remain open this Thankgiving.
