'Stranger Things 3' Is Breaking Netflix Streaming Records
While many Americans were out scarfing hot dogs and downing beers to celebrate Fourth of July, a good number of people took a trip to the Upside Down instead. The wait for season three of Stranger Things to arrive felt endless, but our favorite sci-fi series finally returned to our screens on Independence Day and has already broken records. According to Netflix, 40.7 million accounts viewed Stranger Things' new season in the first four days after it hit the streaming service, the biggest viewership to date for a Netflix original film or series.
".@Stranger_Things 3 is breaking Netflix records! 40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch—more than any other film or series in its first four days," Netflix announced via Twitter on Monday. The streaming giant always revealed that of those 40.7 million accounts, "18.2 million have already finished the entire season."
Netflix originals have been breaking records left and right. Back in December, Netflix announced that its thriller Bird Box was viewed by over 45 million accounts in its first week. Then in April, it was announced that the Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler comedy Murder Mystery was viewed by over 30 million accounts in its first three days, making it the best opening weekend for a Netflix original.
Season three of Stranger Things picks up where we left off: Relationships are blossoming within the Hawkins gang, but their summer of fun is threatened when the Mind Flayer returns and begins to possess everyone in Hawkins.
So when can we expect a Stranger Things season four announcement?
