Stranger Things fans were pleasantly surprised on Tuesday morning by the release of a teaser for the third season of Netflix's hit show on Twitter. At just 80 seconds long, the clip shows very little, although it does hint at that the new installments of the sci-fi thriller will be set in a previously unseen Starcourt Mall, that is set to open in the fictional town of Hawkins next summer – just as the series appears on Netflix.

Created in the style of an Eighties promotional video, the teaser mostly focuses on showcasing the teenage lifestyle that has been explored during Stranger Things' previous seasons. A further clue lies in a glimpse of character Steve Harrington, who can be seen working at the Scoops Ahoy ice cream shop.

Of course, this being Stranger Things, it's likely that an encounter with monsters such as the demogorgon will unfold within the mall, although fans will have to wait to witness such otherworldly happenings.

Stranger Things rapidly became one of Netflix's most beloved shows after appearing on the streaming service in July 2016, and became critically acclaimed – the first season achieved 94 per cent on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. A gripping and eerie action thriller, the show focuses on a group of children in the trying to investigate the disappearance of their friend Will while dealing with supernatural beings such as the demogorgon in the parallel universe, The Upside Down.

If the teaser is to be believed, Stranger Things will be back on our screens during Summer 2019.
