Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown driven off Twitter by homophobic memes
The 14-year-old star of Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown, has quit social media after an "ironic" meme portraying her as a homophobe and racist became popular.
Trolls have been sharing images of the young actress with captions about "hating f--s" as if they are things she has actually said.
The "joke" appears to be that this would be really out of character for Brown, whose Twitter presence takes the form of an anti-bullying account that she set up last summer called @Milliestophate.
In light of the recent meme, Brown, who plays Eleven in the Netflix hit, has ceased using the account.
Last year, the actress showed her support for the LGBT community by wearing a light blue ampersand pin to the MTV awards to represent the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
It is understood that the homophobic tweets were inspired by a fake account of Brown accosting a fan and removing her hijab.
