Street boutique walk, International Carillon Festival among 5 things to do this weekend

School is just about out for all of the Springfield area which means there's more time for family fun.

This weekend will provide plenty of chances to go out and about in the area. Here are five things we found to do this weekend.

State Street Boutique Walk

What: Elodie Grace Boutique is pairing with District 23 to kick off summer with the second annual State Street Boutique Walk. Items at the walk will vary from trendy bags to new summer dresses in every shade from vendors keeping on-trend.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: 1340 S. State St., Springfield

More: Vendors District 23 and Elodie Grace Boutique’s inventory can be found online or on their Facebook pages.

International Carillon Festival

What: Presented by Thomas Rees Memorial Carillon, the International Carillon Festival comes to Washington Park for the weekend, bringing a whole schedule of different musical performers from around the globe. While the events start on Thursday with the Springfield Municipal Band and John Widmann of Maryland, the weekend will have over nine performances. There will be fun for all ages with yard games from the Kidzeum of Springfield, food trucks for any flavor profile you’re fancying, and fireworks to light up dusk on Friday night.

When: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday

Where: 1740 W. Fayette Ave., Springfield

More: Information about the individual performances can be found online on Facebook.

Music and Margs with Geoff Ryan and Tom Beverly

What: Head on out to the Lake Springfield Marina where the waves are slow and melodic, the drinks are cold, and the music is hot as the early summer air. Duo guitarists Geoff Ryan and Tom Beverly play a little bit of everything – country, blues, classic rock, a little blue grass and even some of their originals. El Taco Guapo invites locals and tourists to come down to the marina and take a few hours to rest and recuperate after this week.

When: 6 p.m. Friday

Where:  17 Waters Edge Blvd., Springfield

More: El Taco Guapo’s menu can be found online and is the only public venue on Lake Springfield, a quaint green shack with glowing string lights.

More: Prominent Springfield restaurant listed for sale. Here's what we know

Cicada Saturday at Lincoln Memorial Garden

What: Ever wondered what a Cicada-themed party would look like? Maybe the buggy-merchandise will pull you into this strange festival of flying critters currently overtaking Chicago and sections of Illinois. Two groups of cicadas, or “broods,” are waking up during the same season, causing billions of the loud bugs to swarm for a few weeks before dying out. To celebrate a cicada-centric day, all ages can walk around the memorial garden to learn about the species, play inspired games and take decibel readings every hour to hear just how loud the suckers can get.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: 2301 E. Lake Shore Drive, Springfield

More: Cicada-centric merchandise available in the Split Rail Shop, including stickers custom designed by local artist Kevin Veara.

Friday Night Jazz and Blues

What: Back for a new season, the Springfield Area Arts Council is presenting Friday Night Jazz and Blues to the public throughout every week of June. What was once Uptown Friday Night has now become weekly concerts featuring local, regional and national bands. The party of rhythm and soul will be mainstage at Boone’s on Edward Street at the outdoor patio with plenty of chairs and a few fake horses to sit on if it gets too packed. The first performance on June 7 will feature the Tom Lowery Trio, a Chicago-based group who incorporates funk and latin into their jazzy ensemble.

When: 5:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Boone’s at 301 W. Edwards St.

More: The full schedule of performances can be found on Springfieldartsco.org with times, locations and performances throughout the month.
