Student's blackface photo reportedly under investigation by school: 'Inappropriate'
A Snapchat post showing an Alabama high school student in blackface is reportedly under investigation by the school district.
The photo showed a student wearing a black face mask with the caption “Is this what being a n***er feels like?” It began circulating on social media on Wednesday, but news organizations blurred the student’s face because she’s likely a minor.
Auburn City Schools (ACS) officials posted a since-deleted statement to Facebook saying they were made aware of an “inappropriate” social media post from an Auburn High School (AHS) student. “What has been presented to the administration at AHS and the leadership of ACS in this case does not reflect the school system’s statements of belief,” the statement said, according to Montgomery, Ala., news station WSFA.
Yahoo Lifestyle has reached out to Auburn City Schools for comment.

The photo appeared the same week two Virginia politicians faced their own blackface scandals. Gov. Ralph Northam first apologized for a photo on his 1984 medical school yearbook page showing someone in blackface and another person in a Ku Klux Klan hood. However, he later backtracked to say the photos didn’t include him. Soon after, the state’s attorney general, Mark Herring, admitted to wearing blackface once in college. Both men have faced calls for their resignation.
The Alabama incident is not the first time a student has posted a photo wearing dark makeup or a black face mask to Snapchat. A Kansas State University student was expelled in 2016 after posting a photo in a black face mask with the caption “Finally feels good to be a n***a.”
