Style Update: 5 Kinds of Comfy Shoes Every Woman Should Own -- And How to Wear Them All Fall Long
Let’s face it – we all want to look good, but no one wants to come home at the end of a long day with aching feet or a sore back. That’s why we asked fashion expert Gretta Monahan to share her styling secrets for making our 5 fave pairs of comfy shoes look just as good as sky-high heels, minus the suffering.
Ballet Flats
Want to look polished with minimal effort? Pair your favorite jeans with ballet flats. Gretta says straight, skinny or a classic bootleg jean all look great with a basic flat. And if you think you won’t get any support, think again – many ballet flat styles now feature arch-supporting insoles built right in.
Booties
These “used to be something we wore mostly during the winter or hidden under long slacks,” Gretta says, but those days are long gone. This style staple can and should be worn all year round -- and not just with pants. Match comfy but sophisticated booties with a dress or a long skirt for an effortless boho-chic look.
Slip-Ons
Slip-ons like an on-trend, dressy loafer are amazing, because you can look polished without the pain of hoofing it in heels all day. Skip the socks, though. “The beautiful thing about a slip-on is that the inside is typically created so you don’t have to rely on wearing a sock,” Gretta points out. She suggests that if you really want to wear a sock, an invisible “ped”-type sock looks best.
Rain Boots
Don’t let rainy or snowy days get you down. Gretta says you can be look like you stepped out of the pages of a fashion spread, even in rain boots. She suggests pairing fun wellies with a dress and textured tights, leggings or socks. “You can wear rain boots and look stylish all day,” says Gretta.
Lace-Up Tennis Shoes
Want to hit your weekend errands in style? Throw on tennis shoes with yoga pants and a graphic tee. And though classic white kicks are definitely in style and look fresh with everything, they get dirty easily. Gretta suggests choosing tennies in bright colors for a no-brainer way to punch up a neutral palette (black, gray, white and nude colors).
