The 'Suits' Universe Is Expanding
The Suits universe is expanding! Deadline reported on Oct. 12 that a new Suits series, from the creator of the original legal drama, is in the works at NBCUniversal—but it won't be a spinoff, reboot or revival.
Sources told the outlet that the series would be "a Suits universe series in the vein of the CSI and NCIS franchises featuring new characters in a new location."
Suits debuted on USA Network in 2011 and ran for nine seasons before coming to an end in 2019. A spinoff titled Pearson premiered two months before the Suits series finale, but was canceled after just one season.
Meghan Markle famously played Rachel Zane in the original series, which in 2023 set a new Nielsen viewing record for an acquired title with almost 18 billion minutes across Netflix and Peacock.

Discussing the show's streaming popularity, Suits creator Aaron Korsh told The Hollywood Reporter, "I think why people are tuning into it is a combination of that TikTok thing, there’s no doubt that there’s some curiosity about Meghan [Markle], and then Netflix knows how to entice you to watch a television show and then that builds on itself."
In the same interview, Korsh said that he was "very satisfied" with how Suits ended. "I managed not to be ashamed of any of the episodes we did. And so, I’d be afraid [to do it again]," he admitted. "It’s not like I can think of a ton of shows that have been rebooted that I’ve watched, where I was like, 'Yeah, that was great.' Usually, I’m not even interested in watching them."
However, Korsh noted that he would consider a reboot "if someone reached out and the cast was into it," and if he "could come up with something that excited me."
When will the new Suits series come out?
It's unclear when the series would be released since "deals are still being negotiated," according to Deadline, but it "is expected to be fast-tracked with a serious commitment."
What is the new Suits series about?
The original Suits is a legal drama that revolves around the professional and personal lives of talented lawyers in New York City, and the new Suits series would, well, follow suit, only it will be set in a different city with a different cast of characters.
Where will the new Suits series be set?
While the original series was set in New York City, Deadline has heard that Los Angeles is being considered as the setting for the new project.

Will Meghan Markle return for the new Suits series?
Markle, who left the original show in 2017 after seven seasons, retired from acting prior to marrying into the British royal family. During her engagement interview with Prince Harry, Meghan said, "I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change."
Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since stepped down as working members of the British royal family, Markle has made it clear that she does not intend to return to acting. "I'm done," she told Variety in 2022. "I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."
Either way, Deadline has reported that the new Suits series would feature new characters.
