Sum 41 Frontman Deryck Whibley's Wife Shares Scary Health Update After the Singer Was Hospitalized With Pneumonia
Sum 41 lead singer Deryck Whibley is celebrating his wedding anniversary from a hospital bed this year.
His wife, Ari, shared the news on Instagram yesterday, Sept. 16, revealing that instead of catching a flight to Chicago for the occasion, he found himself strapped to an ambulance stretcher on a trip to the emergency room.
"Deryck and I were suppose to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us," Ari wrote on the social media app, alongside photos of the punk band frontman's hand in hers, an IV in his hospital braceleted wrist and a pulse ox on his pointer finger, and of the "Still Waiting" singer being unloaded into the ambulance bay.
"We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia," she continued, adding that, even scarier than the lung infection itself was the strain it was putting on his heart. "...they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure."
It's not the first time Deryck has found himself hospitalized suddenly—in 2014, he was hospitalized with kidney and liver failure as a result of long-term alcohol abuse— bringing a lot of difficult memories back to the forefront of Ari's mind.
"I know how strong he is because I have witnessed what he has been able to overcome but that doesn't make it any easier to see," she added, promising to keep fans updated where possible and requesting them to keep the musician in their hearts.
