What to do this Summer in Caldwell County

Jun. 24—CALDWELL COUNTY — The summer's off to a blazing start, and there's still more to come. Caldwell County and the surrounding area has endless opportunities to engage with friends and family, out in nature and in town, art and music and more. Here are a few of the offerings.

At the HUB Station in Hudson, some summer events have already started, including a beginners weaving class and 2024 Summer Jam, but others are set to begin before long. All event sign-ups, as well as more details on each, can be found at thehubstation.com.

"The Last Romance," Hudson Dinner Theater's first summer production, still has tickets to sell for its performances from June 27-30.

Ticket sales are ending soon for the Natalie Granoff "Paint pour and sip" fluid art workshop on June 28. "Join us for a fun-filled evening of painting, pouring, sipping, and laughter at our in-person Paint Pour and Sip event!," reads the event description. Additional fluid art sessions will take place sporadically throughout the summer, including the "Red, White, and Bloom" event set for July 2.

A children's pottery camp, as well as a teen and pre-teen pottery camp, will take place from July 16-19, where children will build projects and learn basic pottery techniques, while teens and pre-teens will learn the same in addition to glazing and finishing techniques, hosted by Patti Palmer Manes.

A cupcake decorating and floral arranging workshop will be hosted on July 20 by instructors Shawn Walker of The Farmhouse Gardens and Erica Ashley of Bluebird Custom Bakes.

Children's and teens' mixed media art camp will be held August 5-9 and feature painting, drawing, collage, sculpture and tie die. , with limited spaces. The class instructor will be Beverly Mihelich.

Shag dancing lessons are held on Mondays at 1841 Cafe at 6 p.m. Shag, a kind of line dancing, is the official state popular dance. This summer, residents might just get a chance to learn it.

A 4th of July Picnic will be held at Fort Defiance on Thursday, July 4. The program will begin at 11 a.m., where hamburgers and hot dogs will be served. Tickets may be purchased online at historicfortdefiance.org.

The Hudson Kiddie Car Parade and Bicycle Safety Fair will be held on July 4 at Redwood Park in Hudson. Free bike helmets will be passed out by the Hudson Police Department, while supplies last, and after completing the course a bike give-away will be held.

The 21st North Carolina Blackberry Festival will begin on Friday, July 12, at 5 p.m., and on Saturday at 9 a.m. downtown. The annual event will feature vendors, music, the 5k Glow Run, a blackberry pie-eating contest, and a blackberry cobbler parade. More information is available at downtownlenoirnc.com.
