The Summer Evenings in the Park series is back, with food, fun and music: What to expect

FALL RIVER — For the fourth year in a row, the city and its partners are gearing up for the Summer Evenings in the Parks series with free music, art, activities and food held in eight of Fall River’s public parks in July and August.

“It’s a holistic event,” said Patrick Norton, executive director of the Narrows Center for the Arts, one of the sponsors of the summer-long event during a press conference on Wednesday in Griffin Park. “It really brings what the Narrows Center for the Arts does in Fall River. It brings it right into the neighborhoods.”

Norton added that every family that attends the events will be provided a free bag of groceries compliments of the Greater Fall River Food Pantry and the Citizens for Citizens food pantry.

Opportunity to meet your neighbors

“We really think that kind of ties the event together," Norton said. "Everybody gets to come, have a good time and go home with something nice. And it's really a United Nations kind of event where we get people from all different walks of life coming together.”

The events are also a way of people getting to meet their neighbors, said Norton.

“And that’s not something everyone gets to do on a daily basis,” said Norton.

The first in the series kicks off at Father Kelly Park on July 10. The events are from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Wednesday in July and August, at a different park each week.

In addition to the Narrows and the city, Bristol County Savings Bank, Greater Fall River Re-Creation and Viva Fall River are co-sponsors.

Jeffrey Pagliuca, vice president of Bristol County Savings Bank, presented a $10,000 check for the summer-long event.
