'Sunburn-inspired' eye makeup ruled the red carpet at the 2018 Emmy Awards
The idea of sunburned eyelids as a source of makeup inspiration sounds a bit strange, but the unusual beauty look was all over the red carpet at this year’s Emmy Awards.
“Sunburn-inspired eye makeup,” as reported by Allure, is attributed to makeup artist Terry Barber, who mixed up rosy terra cotta hues in pictures posted on his Instagram account. Despite the peculiar name, the unique eye makeup shade — which is a mix of bronze, pink, and orange — is quite beautiful, and celebrities like Elisabeth Moss, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Mandy Moore made a case for the trend.
Dior makeup artist Daniel Martin prepped Moss for the red carpet and achieved the perfect shade of orange-pink using colors Volcanic and Devilish found in the 5 Couleurs Rouge en Diable palette. He rounded out the look with subtle definition, allowing the vibrant hues to shine. “I lined her eyes with Diorshow Art Pen in Catwalk Black and Diorshow Mascara in Pro Black,” he explains.
Ross went for a bolder approach with a unique take on the sunburn-inspired color. Makeup artist Lisa Storey layered Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Cream Shadow in Bette, an amber-gold hue under a swipe of Hot Lips lipstick in Tell Laura, a vivid orange-red shade with a matte finish.
Opting for a monochromatic look, Moore wore a bevy of beautiful tones to complement her fresh-face complexion. Makeup artist Jenn Streicher used the copper, burnt orange, and golden brown shades in the Lanc?me Proenza Schouler for Chroma Eyeshadow Palette to create a gorgeous red carpet look.
