Sunday Brunch: m.henry has been an Andersonville staple for over 20 years

Blackberry Bliss pancakes — they’re actually referred to as hot cakes — and cinnamon roll French toast are two of the most popular offerings from m.henry, which has been a breakfast and brunch staple in the Andersonville neighborhood on Chicago’s North Side for over 20 years now.

The restaurant opened in 2003 when Michael Henry and Jorge Aviles partnered up, and m.henry keeps drawing large crowds from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays in its location at 5707 North Clark Street.

“I can’t believe that it’s been over 20 years that m.henry has been a part of the Andersonville neighborhood,” Chef JD Voss says. “It feels so sweet to be a part of it.”

Voss joined the latest edition of the WGN Weekend Morning News Sunday Brunch with Sean Lewis to make m.henry’s famous Blackberry Bliss hot cakes, but also to talk about its newest menu item.

That’s a breakfast burrito, which includes fluffy eggs, spinach, leeks and queso fresco. Plus another key ingredient.

“The best part of it is the bacon jam, because who doesn’t want to start their morning with bacon?” Voss questions (accurately). “… We make everything in-house, and we pour over this house-made adobo sauce.”
