The Super-Simple Fall Snack Dylan Dryer Makes With Her Kids

A truly unique fruit in its own right, pumpkins have transcended their typical use of being turned into a Halloween jack-o'-lantern and integrated themselves into countless food and drink recipes over the years. Many of which, like Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte for example, only make their appearances once a year during the fall season.

So when you’re at home and in the mood for a quick and unique pumpkin-based snack that's both easy to make and great for the whole family, which seasonal dish do you prepare? Well lucky for us, NBC meteorologist Dylan Dreyer has the perfect option, and it happens to be her family’s favorite snack: Pumpkin Yogurt Dip.
Featuring fresh sliced apples, plain Greek yogurt, canned pumpkin and maple syrup, Dreyer's take on this instant fall classic is perfect for not only breakfast and lunch, but also makes a killer post-dinner dessert.

To make Pumpkin Yogurt Dip, first add salt to 2 cups of water. Place the sliced apples into the salt water and let them sit for 10 minutes. Then, rinse the apples and mix them in a bowl with salt, plain Greek yogurt, canned pumpkin, vanilla extract, pumpkin pie spice and maple syrup. Serve as a dip with graham crackers and apples, or — better yet — on pancakes or waffles.
In Dreyer's video, she and her son add chocolate chips to the mix as well, specifying in her caption that the addition of chocolate is “for the skeptical kids.”
As a side perk to this delicious snack, running your apple slices through a salt water bath is actually one of the go-to ways to keep your apples from turning brown. Using this method will not only aid in the overall flavor of the recipe, but will also help keep your apples fresh in color for up to 5 days when placed in the refrigerator.
