Is Superman: Legacy About to Cast Lex Luthor?
Superman: Legacy is close to casting its core villain.
Four months on from introducing us to the actors playing Clark Kent and Lois Lane, DC’s Superman reboot might have found its Lex Luthor.
That frontrunner for the role is Nicholas Hoult, who’s best known for playing the X-Men character Beast from 2011 to 2019. He’s also featured in Mad Max: Fury Road, The Menu, and Renfield.
Warner Bros., however, hasn’t commented on the rumor. Instead, the news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which writes: “In one of the most significant new castings post-SAG-AFTRA strike, Superman: Legacy has found its Lex Luthor, with Nicholas Hoult in talks to star as the classic villain. No deal is done, but talks have been in the works since before the strike.”

If true, Hoult will join Superman: Legacy co-stars David Corenswet as Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Hoult was actually in talks to play the Man of Steel himself when auditions were held during the summer; now he’ll be trying to take him down.
Superman: Legacy will release 11 July 2025.
