The Surprising Food You Shouldn’t Be Eating on the Keto Diet

So you’re sticking to the keto diet (you go, girl). To achieve ketosis, everyone will naturally have a different carb cap. But as a general rule, you shouldn’t climb higher than 30 grams of carbs a day.

While you’ve probably cut out “duh” categories like sugar, bready things and starchy veggies (sweet potatoes, we’re looking at you), you might not realize there’s one sneaky high-carb food that’s still in your diet: beans.

They came to our attention when we recently tried to make keto chili, did a deep dive into beans and realized that a single 15.5-ounce can usually contains about 70 carbs. Granted, you probably won’t be guzzling up an entire can; a single serving has about 19g of carbs.

To put everything into perspective, a slice of whole grain bread usually has about 12 grams of carbs.

Guess we’ll just have to make our chili with extra avocado, sour cream and cheese.
