The Surprising Reason Women are Marrying Trees
Women in Mexico are marrying trees, and no, it’s not a result of bleak dating prospects in 2018 or because they gave up on human marriages. The women are activists who hold marriage ceremonies to raise awareness about illegal logging, or clearing the land, in San Jacinto Amilpas, Mexico.
The event is called “Marry a Tree” and is meant to honor the environment and protect the Oaxaca state, which is one of the regions in Mexico that are most affected by deforestation. Peruvian actor and environmentalist Richard Torres, who married a tree in Colombia in 2014, led the event. The ceremony is said to "save your oxygen" and "it looks to raise awareness about caring for the environment and protest against deforestation."
It looks like a lovely event!
And you wouldn’t even have to buy something off a registry for this wedding. Of course, you can’t really marry a tree, so it’s more symbolic than legally binding.
