Suzanne Somers Speaks on Recurrence of Breast Cancer: 'I’m a Fighter'
Suzanne Somers is easing the nerves of fans following the latest news regarding her battle with breast cancer.
Alongside a sweet photo of herself being embraced by her husband, Alan Hamel, the 76-year-old actress ensured her Instagram followers that she's in the best hands when it comes to her health.
"Since I have been taking time off from work, many of you have asked for more details about my health," she explained. "As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down."
For now, she's taking it Step By Step. "I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me," Somers stated. "I know how to put on my battle gear and I’m a fighter."
She also credited her support system–including her husband of 46 years, Hamel, and her son Bruce Somers Jr. whom she shares with ex Bruce Somers–as an instrumental service, helping her in ways she can't even begin to describe.
"Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can’t even explain how much he has done for me," Somers admitted. "If it’s even possible, we are even closer than ever."
The Hollywood icon continued, thanking her family for their efforts in keeping her business–multiple lines of health and beauty products–up and running. "My incredible family has been so supportive, and have helped so much by keeping the business running so you can still have access to all the wonderful products."
"Thank you for the continued love and support," she concluded. "It’s only about who you love and who loves you - and I love you! ????."
As Parade reported earlier this week, Hamel addressed his wife's ongoing health battle after viewers of her Facebook Live program began to worry about her prolonged absence from the show.
"Suzanne has lived with cancer all her life," Hamel revealed, adding, "In her 20s, she’d also dealt with two hyperplasia… which is the waiting room for cancer."
The 87-year-old continued, "She has now dealt with her cancer once again," sharing that "on June 6, she got an all-clear, but cancer is tricky and we will now closely monitor everything going forward."

He also claimed, "All her doctors said if she didn’t lead a chemical-free, organic life supported by bio-identical hormones, she wouldn’t be with us."
After Somers' was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000, the actress switched to an all-organic diet. She even incorporated the habits into her lifestyle, removing makeup and skincare products that included chemical ingredients from her regimen.
About two decades before that, Somers also battled cancer "three times" while filming the iconic 1970s-80s sitcom Three's Company.
"They call it severe hyperplasia in your uterus. I didn’t make a big deal about it. In my 30s, I got a malignant melanoma in my back," she told CBS back in 2020.
While this may not be new territory for Somers, Hamel said, "We decided to put work on the back burner for now and focus on her health."
