Growing up, I would consistently hear my mom say, “You must always buy good quality shoes, jewelry, and hair products.” According to her, these were the things that one should never scrimp on, and truth be told, her wise proverb has stuck with me ever since. I noticed that my mom never had an intricate twenty-step haircare process; she relied on a select few products that she adored, and prioritized quality over quantity with every purchase. She understood that well made products have everything to do with thriving hair, and this mindset was fortunately bestowed upon me. One of those products was the Biolage HydraSource Shampoo.

This product is one of my mom’s most prized staples product that has been sitting beneath her marble top bathroom sink for as long as I can remember— and is replaced after it's used down to the last drop. I can recall one particular day when she washed my hair— as she often did back then because I was too young to manage the thick coils that sprouted from my head. When she pulled out her large bottle of Biolage, I was quite skeptical initially, seeing as though my mom’s hair texture is wavy, and mine is quite curly. I was no hair connoisseur at the time, but I did know one thing; not all shampoos work well across textures. So, of course I was reluctant to think that this product would suit the needs of my curls.

Needless to say, my apprehensions were soon dismissed, as moments after this smooth formula melted into my hair, my curls were instantly revived. The mixture was neither harsh nor abrasive, and it didn’t dry my hair out, especially compared to most sudsy shampoos that I remember using back in the day. My curls appeared moisturized and healthy, and my scalp felt clean. You might think I’m being too effusive in my description, but how else should I describe a shampoo that quite literally saved my hair and scalp from feeling as dry as The Sahara?

Fast forward to about fifteen years, I’m much older now and I’ve learned to traverse the tangled landscape of hair care on my own. And although there have been many changes, a few things have remained the same, one of which is my love for this shampoo. As time has passed, I’ve also become more intrigued by the science behind my products. I’ve learned that Biolage HydraSource Shampoo is made with Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, and its formula is inspired by aloe plants which contain inherent hydrating properties. This mixture is also vegan and paraben-free, which makes it a solid ten out of ten in my book. My advice to you? Especially if you have dry, wavy, or curly hair, try it out. I guarantee you won’t turn back.

Biolage HydraSource Shampoo will forever be my tried and true, and I’ll tell you one thing, I’m never letting it go.
