Taco Bell Revives Menu Item After 'Insane Amount of Love' From Fans

Taco Bell is embracing the spirit of giving this holiday season, as the fast food chain announced the return of a fan-favorite menu item for a limited time.

The popular brand is officially bringing back the Double Decker Taco for a short time, with the menu item returning on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The taco features a bean-filled soft tortilla wrapped around a hard shell taco filled with beef, cheese and lettuce. There is also a Double Decker Taco Supreme, with tomatoes and sour cream added on top.

Taylor Montgomery, Chief Marketing Officer of Taco Bell, said of the decision to bring it back, “The Double Decker Taco holds a deep space in the hearts of our Taco Bell Fans. The insane amount of love for this product from fans across our social platforms was impossible to ignore."

"The sentiment was particularly strong following last year’s spirited face-off with the Enchirito," Montgomery went on. "We listened to what our fans wanted from us and knew we couldn’t deny them the joy of the Double Decker Taco any longer."

In 2022, there was a voting contest in the Taco Bell app that asked fans to pick between the Double Decker Taco and the Enchirito. While the Enchirito won the competition, there were still plenty of people who voted for the Double Decker Taco and were disappointed that it lost. Luckily, their time has come, as the item is finally back.

Taco Bell also cited a Reddit AMA from earlier this year as some of the inspiration for the Double Decker Taco's return, saying, "Fans poured out their enthusiasm and shared their nostalgic connection to the iconic menu item, creating a buzz that resonated deeply with the brand."

In one post in the thread, a fan whose username is ImissTheDoubleDecker wrote, "Over the years I had become a huge fan of Tacobell [sic] and found myself enthralled by a specific menu item. As you can obviously guess this item is the Double Decker.. my fast food first love..." going on to call the discontinuation of the menu item in 2019 a "soul crushing event which stopped me dead in my tracks."

Montgomery responded to the user, writing, "love your passion. I'm going to look into it," and now it's officially back.

Taco Bell also announced a few deals for December, including a BOGO Double Decker Taco deal for Uber One members until Dec. 10. It's unclear just how long the Double Decker Taco will be back for, so it's best to grab it while you can!
