From Taco Wars, to jazz music to poetry slams, here's what's happening in Shreveport

It's the final weekend of April and there are so many big things happening in Shreveport that you're not going to want to miss out on.

From Prize's annual Taco Wars to an old-fashioned poetry slam at the Robinson Film Center, here's some of the fun events you can get into this weekend in Shreveport.

Friday, April 28

  • Versified: Rated Poetry with Poetic X at the Robinson Film Center - Versified is a poetic source of energy giving one the ability to translate, transcribe and transform language into poetic expression. See a screening of the documentary that will highlight the art of poetry, history, personal experiences, contributions, accomplishments and more in the field of poetry. There will be a Poetry "Slamaganza" featuring poets directly after. Visit the RFC website for tickets.

  • Spring Food Truck Night at Eleven Events - Come out and try out some of the amazing food trucks in the SBC. Starting at 7 p.m. local food trucks like the Cajun Asian, Masshole Lobster Truck, Deez Wingz and many more will be set up at 1529 Texas Ave. in Shreveport with music and games.

  • Brian Culbertson at The Strand - Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Brian Culbertson is bringing his "The Trilogy Tour" to Shreveport's iconic Strand Theatre where he will play a mix of songs from The Trilogy Albums as well as his greatest hits from his catalog. Visit the Strand website to purchase tickets. The Strand Theatre is located at 619 Louisiana Ave. in Shreveport.

  • Decades: A Drag Show Through Time at The Korner Lounge - Travel back in time with music through the decades spanning all the way back to the 1950s. There will be performances by Kaylani Hoochie, Shade Nyx Welch, Laxus Chantal and Jena Saltina. Doors open at 8 p.m. with the show starting at 10:30 p.m. with a $10 cover at the door. The Korner Lounge is located at 800 Louisiana Ave. in Shreveport.

Saturday, April 29

  • Taco Wars at the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium - From Noon - 8 p.m. the Prize Foundation will be hosting 16 local taquerias for the annual Taco Wars competition. This event is free to enter, but all food and drinks will need to be purchased. For more information on how the festival works, visit the Prize Fest website. Taco Wars will take place at 705 Elvis Presley Ave. in Shreveport.

  • Jazz Picnic at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery - From 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. come out to the Norton for a day filled with live music, local food trucks and music by Everett Street Jazz on the lawn. The Norton is located at 4747 Creswell Ave. in Shreveport.

  • Beast Feast at Centenary College - Experience a unique culinary experience of surf, turf and more with an afternoon of food prepared by local backyard chefs and popular restaurateurs. The event will take place on Centenary's Jones Rice Field at the corner of Centenary Blvd. and Wilkinson from 4:30 - 7 p.m. All proceeds support student scholarships at Centenary College.

  • Jurassic Empire Dinosaur Adventure at the State Fair of Louisiana - From 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. at 3701 Hudson Ave. in Shreveport, bring the whole family for a Jurassic adventure with giant prehistoric creatures including species made popular by the movies.   • Emo Night with Cryrs at Bear's - Come out for the ultimate emo tribute experience and relive the angst and emotion of local favorite band Cryrs. From My Chemical Romance to Fall Out Boy, Cryrs will take you on a trip down memory lane. There will be a $10 cover at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. at 1401 Fairfield Ave. in Shreveport.
