The Star Wars movie from writer/director Taika Waititi is still happening, but it’s a long way off.
According to the director of JoJo Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok, LucasFilm is waiting for him to finish work on four movie scripts before he turns his full attention to Star Wars.
"At the moment, I'm still developing something with them. Like me, they have a lot of projects going on. I think they're gonna push it until I finish these other projects," Waititi told ET Online.
"I've got about four other scripts that I'm trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don't want to rush this movie."
The Star Wars project was first announced in 2020. One of those four scripts that Waititi is likely talking about is the live-action version of Akira, a project he’s due to direct.
Waititi also confirmed to Business Insider that he isn’t involved in any fifth movie in the Thor franchise for Marvel.
Waititi previously directed Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
