At-home beauty: How to take care of your skin after wearing a face mask, according to dermatologists
Face masks have now been deemed a necessity when outside of the home by many state leaders across the U.S. to help prevent the spread of novel coronavirus. But, whether you are a healthcare worker on the frontlines or just stepping out for groceries, wearing a mask for an extended period of time can take a toll on the skin. We spoke with dermatologists Tiffany J. Libby and Fatima Fahs to find out how to take care of your skin, before and after wearing a protective face covering.
“The best thing we can do for our skin while having to wear a mask all day, is to make sure we have a gentle, simple, yet effective skincare routine when we get home,” Libby tells Yahoo Life.
Fahs notes that prepping the skin before putting on the mask is equally as important as the aftercare. “If wearing a mask for long periods, apply a little Band-Aid over the bridge of your nose or an ointment like Vaseline to help with the friction and prevent skin breakdown.”
