Tamar Braxton shaves her head and says she's 'finally free'
Tamar Braxton never holds anything back. But after a difficult year that included an announcement of the end of her music career, the finale of her family’s reality show, and speculation surrounding her public divorce from Vince Herbert, with whom she has a 4-year-old son, the 40-year-old singer says is “finally free.” And she’s showing it off with a drastic haircut.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday to post a video of herself getting a buzzcut, Braxton expressed her feelings with a simple caption and a song. Playing “My Prerogative” by Bobby Brown over the visual of her hair falling to the ground, fans are feeling inspired by the star’s symbolic gesture that she’s ready to let go of the past.

“I know she over Vince now, when you cut that hair it’s a wrap,” one fan replied in the comments, knowing that breakup haircuts are a thing. While others picked up on the cue that the change to Braxton’s hair is much bigger than her separation from the music executive. “A woman who cuts her hair is about to make some big changes her life,” another person wrote, a sentiment that was echoed by others welcoming her to the “power status.”
In a picture post that followed, Braxton herself addressed the many things that she’s breaking away from by letting go of her long hair — one of which includes other people’s opinions.

“I’m over feeling captive to a wig, weave, people, people’s comments & opinions hell…even my OWN feelings!” she wrote. “WE can choose to stop these things from having the power and victory over us!! And for me, that starts TODAY.”
She’s not the first person to look for freedom through a big chop. However, her continued honesty and transparency with fans is what people seem to appreciate. In late February, Braxton even appeared on The View alongside Herbert, after already filing for divorce, to discuss the reasons behind their separation. In the clip, she addressed rumors that the public had speculated played a role in the couple’s decision, and ultimately shut them down.
Now, Braxton has made it even more clear that she’ll always keep it real.
